12-Week Intensive Workshop

All classes meet twice a week. Monday and Wednesday at 7:30PM. Each unit is 4 weeks long.

  • A 24 - class intensive designed to give you All The Tools You Need to be a confident and WORKING actor in Los Angeles.
  • In addition to class time, all unites include unlimited private sessions with Joel Asher. Actors are encouraged to schedule time for one-on-one help with class work, career counseling and/or audition preparation at no extra charge.

UNIT 1 - COLD READING

The audition process can be the most challenging and unsettling work an actor will do. This workshop will taqke the mystery out of the audition experience and give you the tools you need to GET THE PART.

You will learn to:

  • Handle scripts effectively
  • Focus the power of your imagination
  • Break down a scene quickly
  • Discover how Casting Directors see you and what they want
  • Interviews, call backs, photos, resumes and more...

 

UNIT 2 - TECHNIQUES - A Masters' Study

We stand on the shoulders of giants. The art of acting is constantly evolving and there have been great teachers that have taken Stanislavski's ideas and adapted them for film. In this workshop we will work in depth on techniques which will give you the tools to achieve COMMAND OF YOUR CRAFT.

The exercises and improvisations used in this unit are chosen from the Masters such as Strasberg, Adler, Chekhov and Meisner.

 

UNIT 3 - ON-CAMERA - Showcase/Demo

Los Angeles is an On-Camera town. In this unit you will cultivate a scene from script development to the creation of a finished DVD.

You will learn:

  • How to approach a script
  • Define & communicate a scene
  • Develop a scene for performance
  • Work on a set in front of the camera
  • Matching, marks & multiple takes

This is the final tool in the actor's skillset - A practical application of the previous units. You will develop working knowledge of being on a set and DELIVERING YOUR BEST PERFORMANCE.

Finally, you will come away with a professionally edited DVD demo of your best work as a skilled actor.
